Kathryn Roberts MSN, BSN, RN-BC, CHSE received her MSN and BSN from Texas Tech Health Science Center. She has been awarded several certifications during her nursing career in trauma nursing and stroke assessment, most recently, (CHSE) Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. Ms. Roberts has a true passion for nursing, education, and simulation training. She started her nursing career as a rehab nurse and continued working in medical-surgical units and the emergency room for several large institutions within Houston. During her time there, she became an active member of the education committee and coached and mentored other staff and students. During her time as a clinical nurse, she was a new hire orientation presenter and curriculum developer. In 2017, Ms. Roberts became part of the Global Nurse of the Year 2017 Cohort. When she became an educator in 2018, she taught various critical care classes and also participated as co-lead in other initiatives such as quality improvement programs for preventing infections, developed and taught curriculum and training at multiple campuses and their instructors. During the COVID outbreak, she developed and participated in the essential labor pool training and co-led the crucial ECMO COVID Training for critical care nurses.
At this time, Ms. Roberts is the Supervisor of The Mary E. Mahoney Simulation Center, which has provided over 30,000 hours since 2018 across multiple campuses and disciplines. She has created several simulation scenarios to teach interdisciplinary courses and has written video scripts for some of our department’s educational videos. She has designed simulation training programs for her campus and now has started training all eight campuses in the system on Best Practices for Simulation, Simulation Design, and Simulation Operations. Within simulation, she has been invited to review content for several international simulation conferences and present a workshop on Best Practice in Simulation Design.
