Bette Mariani, PhD, RN, ANEF is Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Nursing at Villanova University M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing in Villanova, PA. She was the President of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). She has dedicated her teaching, scholarship, and service to advancing the science of nursing education and simulation, and is recognized for her leadership and expertise. Her research has focused on exploring the outcomes of simulation as a teaching-learning strategy using standardized patients with disabilities, as well as in the area of patient safety. Dr. Mariani is dedicated to improving the rigor of simulation research through her work on instrument development and psychometric testing in simulation. She was recognized by the National League for Nursing as a Fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education, and she has received the INACSL Excellence in Academia award. Dr. Mariani has disseminated her work through multiple publications, book chapters, and national and international presentations. She has been a scholar and mentor in the Sigma Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy. She has a cutting-edge vision as leader in nursing education and healthcare simulation. Dr. Mariani has presented globally in Australia and Asia on best practices in simulation and has served as a consultant to promote international collaboration about simulation-based nursing education. Dr. Mariani earned her BSN from Villanova University, an MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD from Widener University.
