Dr. Kathryn Vanderzwan graduated with her BSN from the University of Iowa (‘02) and both her MS (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, 2006) and DNP (2017) from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Clinically, Dr. Vanderzwan works as a nurse practitioner in Hospital Medicine and Cardiology at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago. She has been faculty at UIC since 2012 and is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the Clinical Learning Resource Center (CLRC) and Schwartz Simulation Lab. Dr Vanderzwan is a former INACSL Fellow (‘21-22), past recipient of the INACSL Debra Spunt Research Grant (‘22) and CHSE certified. Dr. Vanderzwan’s area of scholarship focuses on handoff education among prelicensure nursing students using simulated distractors and interprofessional education (IPE) in simulation. Her work has been internationally, nationally and regionally dissemmiated. Dr. Vanderzwan is vice-chair of the Advanced Practice Provider Special Interest Group for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and chair of the INACSL Debra Spunt Research Sub Committee.
