Monina Franco-Tantuico Ph.D. (c), MSN, BSMT, RN, CNE, Alumnus CCRN is the Center for Clinical Learning Coordinator for the Human Simulation Program (HSP) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, which includes the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and Teaching OSCE (TOSCE) for the advanced nursing practice (ANP) division. She oversees the daily operation of the HSP, including hiring, training and retaining about 29 standardized patients (SP); scheduling and coordinating human simulation activities with the ANP faculty; and orientation of the ANP students. She is committed to the standardization of human simulation experiences using national and international simulation standards such as the Association of Standardized Patient Educators Standards of Best Practice (ASPE SOBP), National League for Nursing (NLN) Jeffries Theory, and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards.
M. Franco-Tantuico has nursing simulation education experience in the diploma, undergraduate, and graduate nursing programs, using low- to high- fidelity manikins and standardized patients for formative and summative competency evaluations. She also designed and facilitated workshops for faculty, students, and SPs regarding SBE and debriefing practices. She recently published a concept analysis on Active Learning, and has presented at local, national, and international conferences on topics such as Active Learning in simulation, Strategic Planning to Standardize Simulation Practices; Simulation in Nursing Education; and Teaching Empathy to Nurse Practitioner Students Using Simulation and Theatre. Some of her recognitions include the Academic Excellence in Nursing Graduate Studies; Who’s Who among Colleges and Universities; and the New York University Preceptor Award for Nursing Education. She has certificates in Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare (DASH) Rater Training from Harvard Center for Medical Simulation and Simulation Education Certificate from Drexel University. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate student focusing on active learning strategies in the nursing curriculum.
