Dr. Jane Tyerman has a deep understanding of what it means to be a nurse in the complex and challenging environments in which nursing students learn and nurses work. She is a passionate nurse educator and a thoughtful and generous colleague. Her commitment to nursing and the delivery of high quality simulation teaching and learning has contributed to the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN)’s mission to promote and disseminate leading practices in nursing education.
Dr. Tyerman has made significant contributions to nursing education through advancing the pedagogy that underpins the effective use of clinical simulation, as well as through her innovative use of technology to expand equity and access to high quality teaching and learning resources. She embodies unparalleled enthusiasm for the contribution that clinical simulation can make to motivate and stimulate students to think critically and creatively. She is passionate about mentoring her colleagues and students, and has a reputation of creating positive collaborative environments, inspiring individuals and nurturing teams.
She is one of the first nurse educators to receive the Certified Canadian Simulation Nurse Educator (CCSNE) designation from CASN, where she helped design and instruct the online CCSNE preparatory course offered by CASN, as well as helped to write the CCSNE certification exam. The CASN Nursing Education Excellence Award recognizes Jane’s tireless contributions to the promotion of excellence and consistency in the development, implementation and evaluation of leading practices in the use of clinical simulation in nursing education.
