Heiddy DiGregorio has over 35 years of nursing experience. Her personal/professional philosophy is using simulation to provide a safe environment for healthcare learners to “fall forward”. She emphasizes to students to accept every opportunity as a learning opportunity to “fall forward” where learning from mistakes is a positive process toward future professional practice.
She is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, and Certified Nurse Educator. Her current role is Director of Simulation and Interprofessional Education at the University of Delaware. Heiddy teaches across the nursing curriculum ensuring best practices regarding simulation integration into health science curriculums. Her current program of research includes simulated activities that influence undergraduate nursing students clinical practice competencies. Research projects include: an interprofessional collaborative assessment of nursing students during a simulated multidisciplinary disaster drill, organizational skill development using multiple patient simulation, and using virtual reality immersion to develop psychomotor skills.
Simulation projects that exemplify her simulation expertise include: a cost savings re-purposing program enhancing simulation fidelity that saves approximately a $35,000/year; yearly simulation professional development workshops; and SSH simulation center accreditation. She is serving as the subcommittee chair for the HSSOBP Facilitation standard; a subject matter expert for NLN/Laerdal’s Fundamentals vSims; serves on a regional simulation consortium; is an alumni of the National League of Nursing (NLN) Simulation Leadership program; and served as a NLN consultant and authored SIRC course- Evaluation and Assessment Deeper Dive: Creating a Systematic Plan for Success.
