Dr. Karla-Maria Sumrall has over 30 years of nursing with supervisory and education experience within both hospital and higher education. She obtained her BSN from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and MSN from Florida State University. As a lifelong learner, she completed her DNP from American Sentinel College of Nursing and Healthcare Sciences at Post University in 2022, focusing on Nursing Leadership. Her certifications include: The Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate provided through the Oncology Nursing Society, Oncology Certified Nurse through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, Board certified Medical-Surgical Nurse through American Nurses Credentialing Center, and Certified Academic Clinical Nurse Educator through the National League for Nursing. Dr. Sumrall is employed by Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) as an Assistant Professor of Nursing and at Fort Walton-Destin Hospital (FWDH)as a Staff Nurse on a Med/Surg/Oncology unit. At NWFSC, she is a clinical education instructor and has facilitated virtual and high-fidelity simulation experiences for ADN students. At FWDH, she audits and maintains the required Commission on Cancer accreditation standards. Dr. Sumrall has written several case studies for the Swift River and Unbound Medicine, Inc. virtual platforms.
