Simulation Operation Specialist
University of Michigan Flint School of Nursing
Flint, Michigan, United States
James has been active in healthcare simulation since 2010. A lifelong student of computers and technology, James brought his technical expertise to the field. With his unique perspective on the electronic side of simulation, James has helped bring a new level of realism and fidelity to the simulation community for both educators and learners to enjoy.
James achieved his computer network engineering degree in the spring of 2011, but started building his own computers long before that. While earning that degree, he worked as a Student Simulation Technician at the Department of Nursing at Mott Community College. There, he enthusiastically applied his technical skills to operating the Simulation Lab as well as solving issues with technology that inevitably occurred. Seeing the natural connection between his computer prowess and the technical nature of modern clinical simulation, James decided to pursue simulation as a career. In the fall of 2013, he was offered a full time Simulation Technician role at the University of Michigan-Flint’s School of Nursing. There he furthered his efforts to bring technological solutions to simulation, even assisting with the design of the School of Nursing’s new state-of-the-art Simulation Center. He became a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in November of 2015. Alongside the Associate Director of the Simulation Center and the Simulation Specialist/Coordinator, James ensures the highest level of realism and fidelity in clinical simulation in order to best serve the education of future healthcare professionals.
