Penni Watts received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Auburn University at Montgomery and her Masters of Nursing Education from Troy State University. She completed her PhD in Nursing Program focusing on simulation evaluation from the UAB School of Nursing. Watts is currently an Associate Professor and the Director of Clinical Simulation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing. In this position, she oversees the daily operations of the simulation and skills lab that services nursing and health professions students. She is also Assistant Director of Program Implementation for the Office of Interprofessional Curriculum at UAB. Her background includes over 29 years in critical care, emergency/trauma care, staff development, and most recently academics. She has served on several working groups in preparation for accreditation initiatives within the school of nursing. Watts has received her advanced certification in simulation education, CHSE-A. Her service includes chairing the CHSE-A Subcommittee for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and chairing the Standards Committee for INACSL. She completed the Comprehensive and Advanced Instructor course at the Center for Medical Simulation in Boston. She has an interest in Interprofessional education and simulation and also implementation of the Standards of Best Practice for simulation.
