Julie Fomenko received her BSN from the Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University) in 1984, her MSN in Nursing Leadership and Management from Walden University in 2007, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction in 2017 from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Her nursing experience includes critical care, cardiac catheterization lab, open heart surgery recovery, primary cardiac care, nursing education, and leadership. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Simulation and Experiential Learning at the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) where she manages simulations and skills education at 5 sites across the state of Oklahoma for both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The nursing simulation program at OUHSC is one of the original 9 fully endorsed simulation programs granted during the inaugural pilot program by INACSL in 2022.
She has presented at numerous national and international conferences on simulation, nursing education, curriculum development, and active learning strategies. She was a past recipient of the INACSL “Best Practice Innovator” in 2017 and the Texas Organization of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Education (TOBGNE) “Innovation in Teaching” award in 2015.
