Associate Professor School of Nursing
University of Michigan-Flint
Farmington Hills, MI, United States
I am a doctoral prepared Clinical Nurse Specialist employed in both the academic and acute care setting. My experience in simulation has been with the use of low and high fidelity, standardized patients as well as in-situ experiences involving the entire multidisciplinary team. I achieved my Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator Advanced (CHSE-A) certification in 2022 from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare. I participated in the fourth cohort of the University of Michigan Inter-professional Leadership Fellows and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Research Fellowship.
The primary focus of my scholarship has been utilizing simulation as a teaching/learning strategy to assist with critical thinking, patient safety, communication, and proficiency of skills. I utilize simulation within the nursing program as well as in the acute care setting.
I obtained the Catalyst Collaborative Grant in 2018 to use simulation to assist participants in understanding the behaviors and needs of people living with dementia. In 2020 I received both an internal and external grant to use simulation in the safe administration of medications. Recently (2022) I received a grant from the National League for Nursing to further develop my commitment to safe medication administration.
I have served as a PI or co-investigator on numerous projects in both the acute care and academic setting. I have participated in several Interprofessional projects as well as several other projects including the use of a communication handoff tool for interdisciplinary teams and improving medication administration competency of nursing students.
I have presented at the IMSH and INACSL national conferences disseminating information from my experiences with simulation. I have also served as an abstract reviewer and led professor rounds for the IMSH and INACSL annual conferences. I am currently the vice chair of the research committee for INACSL.
