Shelly J. Reed graduated from UNLV with a PhD in nursing education in 2016, from Case Western Reserve University with a DNP in educational leadership in 2009. The focus of both Dr. Reed's DNP thesis and her PhD dissertation was simulation debriefing. She developed a tool evaluating the student experience during debriefing, with an associated article published about this in Clinical Simulation in Nursing in 2012. She has shared this tool with researchers worldwide, and the tool has been translated into Norwegian, Portugese, Chinese, Spanish, and Turkish. Dr. Reed developed and published a ssecond tool on participant learning and engagement during debriefing, and has published on simulation and nursing education topics in Clinical Simulation in Nursing, Nurse Education in Practice, and Journal of Professional Nursing. In addition to simulation debriefing, Dr. Reed is involved in global health, and has participated in leading nursing student groups for many years globally, including to the countries of Tonga, Ecuador, and Paraguay. She has published articles on culture and childbirth, as well as educating student nurses in global health.
