Dr. Martina Harris serves as Assistant Dean of Nursing and Allied Health at Chattanooga State Community College. In 2016, she was selected as a Tennessee Board of Regent Maxine Smith Fellow. Prior to joining Chattanooga State Community College, Dr. Harris was a Tenured UC Foundation Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
During her 25-year nursing career, Dr. Harris has held the positions of Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Case Manager, Educator, and Researcher.
Dr. Harris has been involved heavily in community-based research due to a strong interest in decreasing health care disparities as well as increasing diversity in the nursing profession. Dr. Harris brings many talents and much scholarly insight to the field of recruitment and retention of minority/disadvantaged students. Her many years of clinical practice as well as her years of experience in education have allowed her to serve as both formal and informal mentor for many first generation college students.
Dr. Harris is a member of several local community boards and professional nursing associations, and currently serves as President of District 4 Tennessee Nurse’s Association.
