Dr. Erica Hoyt is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) passionate about educating the next generation of professional nurses. She is a Senior Instructor at the University of Central Florida's (UCF) College of Nursing, teaching in the Nurse Educator graduate program and undergraduate clinical skills course. She teaches lecture, clinical, and lab courses using online, face-to-face, and simulation modalities. Dr. Hoyt received a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in August 2019 from the UCF College of Community Innovation and Education. She also has post-graduate certificates in Healthcare Education and Healthcare Simulation from UCF. She holds NLN, INACSL, Sigma Theta Tau, and Online Learning Consortium memberships.
Since 1995 teaching paramedic students in the emergency department, her career has focused on teaching psychomotor skills. Her research interests include psychomotor skill acquisition and maintenance, simulation, nursing education, and online pedagogy. Dr. Hoyt is a peer journal reviewer for Simulation & Gaming and The Journal for Nurse Practitioners. She serves as a consultant for simulation scenario validation and nurse educator preceptor.
She has received formal training in advocacy/inquiry debriefing and Debriefing for Meaningful Learning®, among other theoretical-based debriefing methods. She is a faculty and a steering committee member of the UCF Simulation, Technology, Innovation, and Modeling Center.
