Lisa Davenport, Ph.D., RN, CEN, is a Clinical Associate Professor for the University of Tennessee (UT) College of Nursing. She serves as faculty in the RN to BSN online program at the University of Tennessee, coordinating and teaching multiple courses using various teaching/learning strategies to deliver evidence-based content. On behalf of the UT College of Nursing, she was awarded the role of Project Director/Principal Investigator (PD/PI) for the federally funded Empowering and Transforming public Health nursing education and practice for Rural underserved areas to Improve care using Virtual-based simulation and Experiential learning (e-THRIVE) project supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under 1 U4EHP42431‐01‐00 and Nurse Education Practice Quality Retention Simulation Education Training grant. In collaboration with Remote Area Medical (RAM®), she is leading an inter-professional team of experts in community/public health, simulation, technology, and systems engineering to use innovative simulation-based modalities and technology to increase the capacity of RN to BSN students and the RAM® RN workforce to work collaboratively across disciplines to improve population health outcomes in Appalachia. Her scholarly work is focused on Appalachia, a region considered a rural and geographic health professional shortage area where rural, impoverished, and underserved populations reside. Dr. Davenport’s research interests include community-based participatory research working with non-profit organizations, public health nursing practice, innovative teaching-learning strategies to strengthen public health nursing competencies, recruitment and retention of public health nurses in rural Appalachia, and the education of RN to BSN students.
