Lori Persico, Ph.D., RN CHSE, is the Director of Simulation Education and is an Assistant Professor at Barbara H. Hagan School of Nursing and Health Sciences for Molloy University. For over a decade, she has been involved in simulation-based education for nursing fellowships, hospital-based systems, interprofessional teams, and graduate and undergraduate nursing programs. Recently, she obtained Endorsement from INACSL for best practices for the university’s simulation program. Dr. Persico is the chair of the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice Committee™ and the lead for the HSSOBP™ Committee for Prebriefing: Preparation and Briefing. Her scholarship includes HSSOBP: Facilitation™, the dissertation titled Comparison of Debriefing Methods on Clinical Reasoning, Psychological Safety, and Learner Satisfaction, researched pre-licensure students. A recent publication in Teaching and Learning in Nursing provides a review for educators to use the NSCBN National Study (2014) guidelines when substituting traditional clinical rotations with simulation. Dr. Persico has mentored countless educators on the best practices for simulation-based education and collaborates with colleagues to develop simulation programs that develop critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and sound clinical judgment.
