Dr. Deborah Pina-Thomas is an Assistant Professor at the University Colorado Colorado Springs. She received her PhD in 2018 from the University of Phoenix. Deborah co-authored an article published in Nursing Education Today (2019) titled: Tracking physical activity in baccalaureate nursing students prior
to graduation: A longitudinal study. She has taught mental health nursing and nursing research courses in the undergraduate nursing program since 2013. Her research interest includes virtual reality simulation and mental health nursing students’ empathy. Deborah recently received an internal seed
grant for her research proposal titled “Does HMDs Virtual Reality Simulations Effect Mental Health Nursing Students’ Levels of Empathy for Clients Experiencing Auditory Hallucinations?”
