Dr. Rhoda San Jose has been a nurse for over 20 years and has been working as a nurse educator and leader since 2004 in nursing education, informatics, simulation, nursing professional development, healthcare workforce development, population health, quality improvement, and patient safety. As the Director of Nursing Skills and Simulation Learning at Iona University, NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences, she is driven to bridge the gap between nursing theory and practice through innovative and realistic simulation experiences. Dr. San Jose is committed to professional development, holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice with an emphasis on information systems and quality improvement.
Through her leadership in healthcare simulation, Dr. San Jose has advanced the use of simulation as an innovative strategy for nursing education by implementing structured instruments to measure the students' clinical judgment, to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation activities, and to improve debriefing strategies. She recently implemented the use of virtual reality to augment simulation activities and aims to explore the use of extended reality and artificial intelligence in clinical competency development and disease management. Dr. San Jose believes that advancing the science of simulation through research and professional development will transform the future of nursing practice.
