Abstract : In the last five years since the landmark NCSBN nursing education simulation study, ongoing evidence continues to support clinical simulation as an alternative to actual clinical experiences (Bradley et al., 2019; Smiley, 2019; Sullivan et al., 2019). Recent evidence also suggests that 65% of schools of nursing use some form of virtual simulation or adaptive technology as part of their teaching and learning strategies (Leah, 2020). This concurrent session will immerse you in the use of a brain-based teaching strategy facilitated by virtual simulation. Join us as we explore situated cognition - a concept at the forefront of contemporary educational reform – and its intersection with virtual simulation.
Learning Objectives:
Define situated cognition and the link to the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model.
Demonstrate how the use of virtual simulation can prepare learners for Next Gen NCLEX
Discuss the connections between situational awareness and clinical reasoning
