(91) Use of telehealth simulation in nursing academe: State of the practice

Abstract: Introduction Nurse educators are experiencing an opportunity to use simulation to prepare graduates for rapidly emerging implementation of telehealth in the practice settings. Existing literature reviews are not specifically focused on nursing education, do not cover simulation in depth, or are limited only to graduate education. The purpose of the current literature review is to explore state of the practice on the use of telehealth simulation in nursing academe.
Theoretical Basis This study uses the scoping review methodology outlined in the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis.
Description of the Project Five electronic databases (CINAHL, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE, Science Direct, Web of Science) were searched to identify English-language articles published between 2017 and 2022 describing the use of simulation to teach telehealth in nursing education. Articles are screened first by title/abstract and then by full text according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Target Population and Setting Types of participants are nursing students (baccalaureate, masters’, DNP, PhD) and nursing faculty/instructors. Concept is telehealth simulation used in nursing education. English-language evidence published within the last 5 years from any geographic location are included.
Results/Outcomes/Evaluation 146 unique records were identified after removing 159 duplicate records. PRISMA flow diagram and detailed findings of the study will be presented at INASCL 2023 conference.
Discussion and Conclusion Findings from this study will fill the gap in the literature and inform simulation educators as they build simulation scenarios to prepare nursing students to provide patient care in an emerging healthcare environment.
